Be Faithful. God Brings the Harvest.

Be Faithful. God Brings the Harvest.

Sometimes we wonder if the small things we do for the Lord really matter.

We pray for someone.

We encourage a friend.

We share the Gospel.

We raise our children to know Christ.

We plant a garden.

We teach a skill.

We give someone hope.

And sometimes... it feels like nothing is happening.

One of the most moving missionary stories I've ever read is the true story of David and Svea Flood.

In 1921, this young Swedish couple left everything behind to serve as missionaries in what is now the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They hoped to share the Gospel with an unreached village, but the chief refused to let them enter. Instead, they built a small hut on a nearby hillside and prayed.

Week after week, only one person ever came to them—a young boy who brought eggs and chickens twice a week.

Rather than becoming discouraged, Svea decided that if he was the only person she would ever meet, he was the one God had sent her to love. She shared Jesus with him, and he became a believer.

Not long afterward, Svea gave birth to a baby girl, but complications and malaria claimed her life just 17 days later. She was only 27 years old.

Heartbroken, David believed their mission had been a failure. He left Africa bitter and angry, even turning away from God for many years.

But the story wasn't over.

Decades later, their daughter, Aggie, discovered that the little boy Svea had led to Christ had grown up and shared the Gospel with others. A school was started. Families came to faith. The village chief eventually became a Christian. The Gospel spread throughout the region—all because one faithful woman refused to believe that speaking to one child was too small of a ministry.

Eventually, Aggie was able to tell her father what God had done.

The work he believed had failed had actually flourished.

That story reminds me of these verses:

"Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy." -Psalm 126:5

"Let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart." -Galatians 6:9

How many times do we become discouraged because we can't immediately see the fruit of our labor?

Maybe you're homeschooling children who don't seem to appreciate it.

Maybe you've been praying for a prodigal for years.

Maybe you're trying to build healthier habits, grow food for your family, learn new skills, or simply be faithful in the ordinary things God has placed before you.

We live in a world that measures success by numbers, likes, and immediate results.

God often measures success by faithfulness.

We may never fully know this side of Heaven how the Lord uses a kind word, a shared testimony, a helping hand, or a seed planted in someone's heart.

Our responsibility isn't to produce the harvest.

Our responsibility is simply to be faithful with the seed He has given us to plant.

Has there ever been a time when you later realized God was working behind the scenes—even when it looked like nothing was happening? I'd love to hear your story.
